NYC Bike Share - Here are the first days numbers for Citi-Bike

On Monday, New York City’s bike share program finally reached the streets — unlocking 6,000 bikes for public use across more than 300 stations in Manhattan and Brooklyn. With the skies clear and the streets relatively bare because of the Memorial Day holiday, riders engaged in a series of trial runs and joy rides, saving the commuting for Tuesday morning.

Here, with an assist from the city’s Transportation Department, is Day 1 by the numbers, as of 5 p.m. on Monday:

Total miles traveled: 13,768

Average trip duration: 20.48 minutes

Number of trips: 6,050

Record number of trips on Boston’s two-year-old system: 3,962, achieved earlier this month.

Annual members: 16,463

Annual memberships purchased on Monday: 772

Most popular starting stations: East 17th Street and Broadway, West 57th Street and Broadway, East 14th Street and Broadway

Most popular ending stations: East 17th Street and Broadway, West 57th Street and Broadway, East 14th Street and University Place
